Notes: VF-21 "Freelancers" was disestablished in November, 1995. VA-115 "Eagles" detached from the air wing for NAS Lemoore, where they have been redesignated VFA-115 and transitioned to the F/A-18C. They were replaced by VFA-27, which is moving to NAF Atsugi from Lemoore.

USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) (December 1998)

Note: VA-34 "Blue Blasters" was redesignated VFA-34 and transitioned to the F/A-18C. VF-11 recently transitioned to the F-14B, transferring its F-14Ds to VF-2 and VF-31.


CVW-8
USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71)

Notes: CVW-8 participated in the shakedown cruise of USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) in February-March 1996. VF-84 "Jolly Rogers", formerly attached to CVW-8, was disestablished at NAS Oceana on 29 September 95. However, the skull and crossbones flies again: VF-103 has adopted the Jolly Rogers name and insignia, and possesses the ceremonial bones of ENS Jack Ernie.

USS Stennis (CVN 74)

Note: VF-24 "Fighting Renegades" disestablished in August, 1996. VA-65 "Boomers" has also since passed from the scene.


CVW-11
USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70)

VA-95 "Green Lizards" disestablished at NAS Whidbey Island after their last deployment aboard Abraham Lincoln, on 18 Nov 95. VFA-97 "Warhawks" joined CVW-11 to fill the gap as the third Hornet squadron.

USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72)

VA-196 "Main Battery" has disestablished.


CVW-15
Carrier Air Wing 15, formed as Carrier Air Group 15 in 1951, was officially disestablished 31 Mar 95, along with a number of her squadrons (indicated below by asterisks) The following list reflects her composition at the time of disestablishment. The surviving squadrons have been directly attached to their parent commands (VFA-97 and -27 were attached to Strike Fighter Wing Pacific, VAQ-134 is attached to VAQ Wing Pacific) or have been reassigned (HS-4 is now with CVW-14, VQ-5 Det C now is with CVW-9).
CVW-17
USS George Washington (CVN 73)

Note: VF-103, formerly the "Sluggers", recently adopted the Jolly Rogers tradition for their own, after the disestablishment of VF-84 in late September. VA-35 "Black Panthers" was disestablished 31 Jan 95. VA-75 "Sunday Punchers" followed suit in early 1997; A-6Es no longer fly from carrier decks.


CVWR-20
With the disestablishment of the West Coast reserve air wing (CVWR-30), CVWR-20 is now the heart of tactical aviation in the Naval Air Reserve.
